Mechanics starts with Statics. We are reliant on all sorts of engineering feats and every scale.

I was stranded in Arequipa recently as violent demonstrations prevented me travelling to Puno where I hoped to see the famous floating islands. I took a room in a cheap hotel to wait for the roads to be cleared, and that evening I found myself face to face with this TV above my bed.

If you have ever carried a TV, you will know how heavy they are. Do you think I had reason to worry about this TV falling on me in the night?
