SPIT IN THE WIND

As a child, I remember being warned not to spit into the wind. The same principal applies, of course, to urinating.

However, I had an unpleasant surprise when I stopped to relieve myself by the side of the road when travelling in South Africa. 

It was extremely windy that day, and despite pointing downwind, I found myself showered with my own urine! 

Why?
