Why "Everyday Physics" ?

In 1999 I obtained my first digital camera and established Everyday Physics as a repository of head-scratching questions for my high school physics students. They responded with great enthusiasm and often sent me messages at odd times of day and night giving suggested answers and asking for advice.

Since then I have moved on from the classroom into school leadership, which is a fascinating subject that is unfortunately less suited to photographic representation! One day I might find a way to capture ideas about school leadership in pictoral form, but in the meantime I have decided to use this website for displaying the photographs that give me pleasure.

My interests have always been eclectic, with music, art, nature and photography being particular favourites. I love walking, cycling and swimming, and being fortunate enough to live by the North Sea I spend as much time as possible outdoors and often take my camera along.

This website is therefore very different from the original, but it continues to give me a place to enjoy the pleasure of recording and sharing my ideas, albeit more artistic than scientific these days.

The Zandmotor (Sand Engine) at Monster in Zuid Holland sometimes attracts exotic visitors like this Spoonbill. â€‹
